Meaning

Indicates that after a long process or struggle, a final result (often negative or disappointing) was reached. It implies a sense of exhaustion or frustration.

Note

Almost always used for situations that result in an undesirable outcome. Often used with words like 'sanzan' (thoroughly) or 'kekkyoku' (in the end) to emphasize the struggle.

さんざん悩んだあげく、彼と別れることにしました。

After agonizing over it for a long time, I decided to break up with him.
