〜ば〜ほど
Formation
Meaning
The more... the more... Expresses that as the degree of the preceding matter increases, the degree of the following matter also intensifies accordingly. The variant 'ba... dake' is also common.
Note
A versatile expression for proportional change. The variant 'ba... dake' (〜ば〜だけ) is slightly less common than 'ba... hodo' (〜ば〜ほど). A key difference is that 'ba... dake' can also be used with the past tense form (V-ba + V-ta + dake, e.g., '教われば教わっただけ').
