〜ふりをする

Meaning
Used to express that someone acts as if something is the case when in fact it is not.
Note
Indicates intentional behavior that contradicts reality. The particle 'wo' is sometimes omitted in casual speech (〜ふりする). Usually written in hiragana.
Examples
彼は本当は知っているのに、知らないふりをした。
Even though he actually knows, he pretended not to know.
彼女は私に気がつかないふりをして通り過ぎた。
She passed by pretending not to notice me.
全然痛くないのに、痛いふりをして同情を引こうとした。
Even though it didn't hurt at all, they pretended it hurt to draw sympathy.
仕事がないのに、毎日忙しいふりをしている。
Even though he has no work, he acts busy every day.
彼は病気でもないのに、病気なふりをして学校を休んだ。
Even though he wasn't sick, he pretended to be sick and took a day off from school.
悲しい時でも、みんなの前では元気なふりをする。
