Meaning

Indicates doing something while also taking the opportunity to do something else.

Note

A formal expression indicating that while doing one action, another action is done as well, taking advantage of the opportunity. It is often used with verbs of movement like 'going', 'walking', or 'driving'. It is more formal than 'tsuide ni'.

散歩がてら、本屋に寄った。

I stopped by the bookstore while taking a walk.
