〜かたわら
Formation
Meaning
Indicates that someone is engaged in a social activity (work, research, etc.) while also doing something else. The two activities typically occur at different times and continue over a long period. More formal and habitual than "while" (nagara).
Note
Used for parallel activities or occupations that are sustained over time, such as 'working while also volunteering'. Unlike 'nagara', it focuses on social activities rather than simultaneous physical actions.
