Meaning
Indicates that an action has been done once and has not been repeated or changed state since then.
Note
Indicates a state of 'stalling' or 'finality' after a single action. It implies that since that one event occurred, the expected next action or change of state has not happened. It is primarily used with the past tense '〜たきり' or with nouns referring to a point in time (e.g., 'あの日っきり').
Examples
彼は3年前に日本へ行ったきり、一度も帰ってこない。
He went to Japan three years ago and hasn't come back since.
今朝コーヒーを飲んだきり、何も食べていない。
I haven't eaten anything since having a cup of coffee this morning.
一度電話したきり、彼とは連絡が取れなくなった。
I haven't been able to get in touch with him since calling once.
本を借りたきり、返すのを忘れていた。
I forgot to return the book since I borrowed it.
息子は自分の部屋に入ったっきり、出てこようとしない。
My son won't come out since he entered his room (and hasn't left since).
彼女とは卒業式の日に会ったっきりだ。
I haven't seen her since the day of the graduation ceremony.
彼とはあの日っきり一度も会っていない。
I haven't met him even once since that day.
それっきり、彼女からの連絡は途絶えた。
Since then, all contact from her has ceased.
