Meaning

Indicates that the reality is different from what one would expect based on the facts mentioned in the first clause. It is a more formal expression than '〜けれど'.

Note

Connects two contrasting clauses where the second clause presents a result or situation that contradicts what usually follows from the first clause. It is more formal and literary than 'noni'. It acknowledges the first fact ('It is true that...') but highlights the unexpected or unsatisfactory nature of the second part.
