Meaning
Used to describe moving along something longitudinal (like a river or road), or acting in accordance with a plan, policy, or someone's wishes.
Note
Has two main meanings: 1) Physical (along a path/river). 2) Metaphorical (following a plan/policy). Often appears as 'ni sotte' or 'ni soitta' (attributive).
Examples
川に沿って長い散歩道を歩いた。
I walked along the long path by the river.
計画に沿ってプロジェクトを進めています。
We are proceeding with the project according to the plan.
マニュアルに沿って、この機械を組み立ててください。
Please assemble this machine according to the manual.
お客様のご希望に沿い、新しいプランを提案いたします。
We will suggest a new plan according to your wishes.
会社の経営方針に沿って、新しいルールが作られた。
New rules were made in accordance with the company's management policy.
線路に沿った道を真っ直ぐ行けば、駅に着きます。
If you go straight along the road by the tracks, you will reach the station.
