Meaning
Indicates a limitation or restriction to a specific set of people, places, or things. It is a formal equivalent of 'dake'.
Note
More formal and stiff than 'dake'. Commonly found in written Japanese, academic texts, and formal speeches. When used with particles: 'ga', 'wo', and 'no' always follow 'nomi'. Other particles like 'ni' or 'de' can precede or follow it.

彼は、家族を顧みることなく、自分が仕事で成功することのみに力を注いでいた。
Without regard for his family, he focused solely on succeeding in his career.
仕事で成功することのみが人生の目的ではない。
Success in one's work is not the only purpose of life.
現状を打開するためには、自ら行動することのみが解決への道だ。
To break the current deadlock, taking action oneself is the only path to a solution.
その映画の試写会へは招待された人のみが参加できます。
Only those who have been invited can attend the preview of that movie.
この町では指定された場所でのみ、タバコを吸うことができる。
In this town, you can smoke only in designated areas.
日本では、1945年まで男性にのみ選挙権が与えられていた。
In Japan, the right to vote was granted only to men until 1945.
