Meaning

Used to express the speaker's desire, request, or hope for someone else to perform a certain action. It can also express a hope for a natural phenomenon to occur when used with '〜が'.

Note

Expresses the speaker's own desire for someone else to act. Cannot be used directly to describe a third party's desire.

Examples

もっと日本語で話してほしいです。

I want you to speak in Japanese more.

この本を読んでほしい。

I want you to read this book.

静かにしてほしい。

I want you to be quiet.

明日、早く来てほしくないです。

I don't want you to come early tomorrow.
