Meaning

Used to introduce a topic or switch themes based on something just mentioned or associated.

Note

A very common expression in daily conversation. It is used to pick up a topic previously mentioned and expand on it, or to mention the most representative example that comes to mind when a topic is brought up.

Examples

日本といえば、富士山が有名だ。

Speaking of Japan, Mt. Fuji is famous.

イタリア料理といえば、パスタとピザだ。

When it comes to Italian food, it's pasta and pizza.
