というもの

Meaning

Used to express that a certain state or action has been continuing throughout a relative period of time. Often preceded by 'koko' (these/this) or 'kono' (this) to emphasize the duration up until the present.

Note

Emphasizes a long duration or a continuous state. Often implies a strong feeling of 'it has been a long time'.

Examples

ここ一ヶ月というもの、休みなしで働いている。

For this past month, I've been working without any days off.

この一週間というもの、雨が降り続いていて、洗濯物が乾かない。

For this entire week, it's been raining continuously, and the laundry won't dry.

彼は大学を卒業してからの三年間というもの、ずっと海外を旅している。
