grandmother (colloquial). A familiar/casual way to refer to one's grandma.
週末はばあさんの家へ行って一緒にご飯を食べた。
I went to my grandma's house on the weekend and ate with her.
うちのばあさんは料理がとても上手だ。
My grandma is very good at cooking.
ばあさんに電話して久しぶりに話した。
I called my grandma and talked for the first time in a while.
an old woman; an elderly female (colloquial). May be informal and can sometimes sound rude depending on context.
公園で杖をついたばあさんがゆっくり歩いていた。
An old woman with a cane was walking slowly in the park.
あのばあさんはいつも元気に挨拶してくれる。
That elderly woman always greets us cheerfully.
若い人が年寄りを『ばあさん』と呼ぶと失礼になることがある。
If young people call an older person 'baasan', it can sometimes be rude.
